The Dying Process

13 August 2012 · Publications

During 2010/11, Nan Maitland was involved in a project that was extremely important to her — the abridging of Dr Julia Lawton’s scholarly work The Dying Process — Patients experiences of palliative care (Routledge, London, 2000).

In the 1990s Julia Lawton was a PhD researcher who conducted unique and significant research on the dying process. She studied over 200 terminally ill patients (and their families and treating practitioners) in their progress from diagnosis to death. Her research uncovered a key fallacy — that palliative care can mean a death without suffering.

Nan was convinced that many of the issues were still relevant and she was determined that they should reach a wider audience than the professional and academic audience that the book had been written for.

FATE has financed the publication of this 103 page paperback to fulfil Nan’s wishes and in her memory and it is now available at FATE meetings. Alternatively, please contact us. Payment by cash or UK cheque in £sterling is £5.00 for the UK, £7.50 for Europe and £10.00 for the rest of the world.
